What is the Alex Del Rio Medal of Honor Scholarship Award?
The Alex Del Rio Medal Of Honor Scholarship Award was established in 2009 through the Alex Del Rio Foundation. The purpose of this Award is to recognize outstanding students who have not only maintained good grades but have also demonstrated a commitment of service to both their school and community. These are students who embody strong leadership and critical thinking skills.
Qualifications
The Alex Del Rio Medal of Honor Scholarship Award is open to 12th grade students graduating seniors. They must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Only students with this academic requirement in addition to strong records of service to their school and community should apply. The student’s service to the school and community should be varied with one major service project highlighted. Along with the aforementioned requirements there are five scholarships that the student may apply; only one scholarship per qualifying student will be awarded.
Award
There will be five scholarship awarded and the winner of each scholarship will receive $1,000.00 a medal and their portrait will be added to the Alex Del Rio Medal of Honor Scholarship Award plaque that will be displayed at each organization. The five scholarships will be designated as follows:
- Child of a Hollywood Police Department Employee
- Child of a Broward County PBA Member
- Child of a Miami Dade County or Broward County FOP Member
- Mast Academy Color Guard Member (M-DCPS)
- Miami Dade County Graduating Senior
